The standard price is actually less than what it was when I pre-ordered in 2013. The price for Rome 2 hasn't risen since launch. 50% off a £30 game is functionally the same as 25% off a £20 game (£15,) but one looke bigger than the other and thus the better deal. It's also worth noting that not reducing the standard price is how Steam and other sites are able to offer such big discounts in sales. As I said before, your best bet for getting it for less is going to be a sale or shopping around. That said, we might see some kind of discount on the game this week, as the new Desert Kingdoms DLC comes out on Thursday. So the game now has more content and is thus arguably worth more than it was when it launched, or even this time last year. That's not even counting paid-DLC, that's just the base game with updates.

Today the game has 14 playable factions in Grand Campaign, as well as a second full size campaign with 10 playable factions, and a lot of the mechanics have been overhaulled and improved.
When the game launched in 2013 it had 8 playable factions, and one campaign. For Empire Divided that was Power & Politics, for Desert Kingdoms that's Female Leaders etc.

Oh and if you want to persuade someone to reduce the price, saying "I could pirate itl," really doesn't encourage them to help you. It's highly unlikely this game is going to have the standard price reduced any time soon, especially when it had a new DLC and update November last year, and another one coming out this very week. Look out for sales of physical disk copies, as those are often cheaper than digital copies but will still be updated to Emperor Edition when you activate them on Steam. Shop around at other legitimate sites like HumbleBundle, which also frequently has them in sales. put it in your Steam Wishlist and you'll be notified next time it's on sale. These games are huge with lots of content (even more when you factor in the paid DLC.) Many players have hundreds or even 1000+ hours in them and that's reflected in the price.

I dont want to say to Sega/CA how to sell their games, but with this kind of prices they are making some people will avoid their games, and definitely making hard that more people that doesnt know the franchise or use to play RTS will try it. *I could pirate it at all, but I know it will work on my PC, and I dont like to start games that I know could give me a great bunch of hours, so I prefer to take it legally or just forget it at all. If I dont buy it this year the most probable thing its that I will forget to buy it because "10 years later" im not going to be interested at all. I have been already waiting 2 years (because I didnt had money for it the first year, the one the game had the best price) And im bored to wait for a reasonable price.
